For years, he lived with the daily challenges of Type 1 diabetes, managing the physical and emotional toll of a disease that affected every part of his life. That changed when he underwent a life-saving pancreas and kidney transplant—a complex, high-risk procedure that offered the chance to live free from insulin dependence for the first time in since he was a child.

The transplant was more than a medical milestone—it marked a turning point in how Matthew approached his life and work. Recovery was slow and humbling, but it gave him space to reflect, refocus, and reconnect with his craft on a deeper level.
